Big Pussy Cat

Technical name is Puma concolor but known variously as cougar, puma, mountain lion, or panther

The signs in our local parks say that if you meet one of these while hiking, you should make yourself look as big as possible - and under no circumstances should you run.

Furthermore, if attacked, you should fight back.

    Gee -thanks for that advice.

My own advice is to always hike with a companion who cannot run as fast as you can.

This pic was taken at a different event - a indoor fundraiser, and his leash was fortuitously running behind the right shoulder and off the back of the table. (Great cooperation from the owner/handler - Charlie Sammut of Wild Things, this is Cosmo - a relatively new addition)

Because I knew the situation would involve weak incandescent lighting, I took my fastest (widest aperture) lens which is fixed at 50mm, but luckily I could get real close for a portrait - didn't seem to bother him a bit - he was apparently quite used to it. But with that wide open lens, you have to watch your depth-of-field.
