Masked Trogon (male)

Masked Trogon (male) by Jim Scarff.
Taken at the photo blind at the Tandayapa Lodge in the Tandayapa Velley (8,400'). The white object beneath the bird's bill appears to be a tick.
This photo shows some of the amazing things digital camera technology is capable of. It was extremely dark in the cloud forest and not long after dawn. This photo was taken at 1/40 second (no flash allowed at the blind), handheld (braced on a window), f/5.0 at ISO 3200! And I remember when the fastest slide film was ISO 25....

I like the fact that you gave us so much information about the bird, where the shot was taken and how the shot was taken. Thanks.

This is SUPER, Jim. Given the adversity you faced here, photographically speaking, this is a triumph. What a gorgeous bird!

Very cool! We only stayed at the blind long enough for the Immaculate Antbirds to come in, but it looks like its great for other birds too.
