This is my old hometown, Cold Spring, New York. My grandfather Alberto Amato, a mason and contractor, built this bandstand in 1928 for the Cold Spring Musical Society. It has become a symbol of the town and the centerpiece of its waterfront park on the Hudson.

The gun in the foreground is a Parrott gun, invented by Robert Parker Parrott and manufactured by him in Cold Spring's West Point Foundry during the Civil War.

I processed this shot in Photomatix specifically to give it a storybook look, because that's how I remember this spot that was a childhood playground for me.
