Dawn on the Adriatic

Dawn on the Adriatic

We might have actually been in the Ionian Sea when this was captured; they don't have signs out there to tell you where one sea begins and the other ends....

The predawn colors cast a rosy glow over sky and sea; you can see why I never slept in during the cruise !

Blue Churn

Blue Churn

Watching the waves churned up by the cruise ship is mesmerizing and hypnotic. This is somewhere on the Adriatic Sea about half way between Venice and our first port of call in Corfu. Sea days (when there are no ports of call) are very relaxing and you can take all the time you want to just watch the waves - I guess that's why they call it vacation....

To Infinity & Beyond

To Infinity & Beyond

The state room corridors on a large cruise ship are great natural vanishing points; though I always had the camera with me, it was difficult to get a clean shot of the halls; they are frequently clogged with housekeeping carts, room service detritus, passengers, stewards, etc. I think this view was very early in the morning when I was heading to the workout room to work off the effects of the excellent dining aboard ship. The handrails come in handy during turbulence - or if you've had a few too many drinks.... not that I would know about that.

All of the corridors look identical, so you can tell whether you're going forwards or backwards by following the fish on the carpet - they swim forwards !

The ship is 965 feet long & this corridor is probably ~900 feet - 3 football fields !

100 Years

100 Years

During our trip to Stanford University for the engagement photo shoot for my daughter and future son in law, they posed in front of the sign outside one of the Stanford libraries. It was a beautiful winter day (California style - sunny and warm) when anything seemed possible...

Year of the Dragon

Year of the Dragon

龍 Lóng Dragon

Cantonese: Gung hei faat coi - Congratulations and Be Prosperous !

According to wikipedia:
The Dragon (simplified Chinese: 龙; traditional Chinese: 龍), is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac and Mongolian zodiac related to the Chinese calendar and Mongolian calendar, and the only animal that is legendary. The Year of the Dragon is associated with the earthly branch symbol 辰 and is considered the luckiest year in the Chinese Zodiac.[1]

Since my lunar symbol is the dragon, he lives with me in my office and is hanging out on my desk durin the Chinese New Year celebrations. Here in the Bay Area we have many Asians who celebrate CNY with much enthusiasm. Maybe this year we will go to the parade in San Francisco.
