This is a shot of a westbound train taken at Durand, Michigan. Durand is a fairly busy crossroads for freight trains and they have a fairly nice historic train depot. I had seen some other shots from Durand on Flickr so I decided to make a day trip to check it out.
This shot was originally in color, but I liked the look of a slightly toned black & white. This shot has had a bit more work done to it than the usual levels, contrast and sharpening. The two trains were moving opposite directions but both were moving very slowly. The original image had both trains in sharp focus. I decided to try to add some motion blur to the one train to better give the sense that the two trains were moving. I also gave the image a little stronger vignette to highlight the main engine. Overall I'm fairly pleased with how it came out, but as always, I'm interested in what others think.
