So this is how I spent my Martin Luther King day off, shooting out at the Big Dam Bridge.
This is actually a two photo blend, one shot with a quick shutter for the sky and another with a long shutter to smooth out the water.

nice sky. i need to get back out to the BDB more often. it just seems a little out of the way at times.

Thanks
I prefer the NLR side of it, it is just hard to get out there in the mornings because of traffic coming back in. I just happen to be out during the day and saw a good sky to take advantage of.

Amazing shot.
I busted my ass on the river bank on the other side of the BDB not long after you took this. Wasn't even trying to shoot the bridge. Either way, I got a nice taste of mud.
What are you using to merge your images?

I just process them in Light Room then move them over to Photoshop. I don't use the whole photo blend thing, I just set the sky in a layer above the other and mask everything but that.
The other side of the river bank is a little tough to move around.

Yeah, it's not real pleasant, heh.
Cool. I tend to do similar things... one layer on top, set it to overlay, then bring it in until it looks appropriate.
I have rarely gotten reasonable results out of actually combining multiple exposures with Photoshop's bits for that, or with Photmatix / Bracketer / anything other popular piece of software you can think of. The couple I have are amazing, but most of the time either combining photos selectively like this or going out of the way to get the exposure right the first time (grad nds, polarizer, whatever) has a better feel to it.
Sky is amazing in this shot.
