Trishula

broken during a fight?
Trishula by Shabbir Ferdous.
EXPLORED
A Trishula (Sanskrit: त्रिशूल, Malay: trisula, Thai: trisun) is a type of traditional Indian trident, usually a Hindu religious symbol. The trishula symbolism is polyvalent and rich. The trishula may also be mounted on a danda or staff. The trishula is wielded by the Hindu God Shiva and is said to have been used to sever the original head of the Hindu God Ganesha. The three points have various meanings and significance, and, common to Hindu mythology, have many stories behind them. They are commonly said to represent various trinities--creation, maintenance and destruction, past, present and future, the three gunas.

I dont know what it was doing on the top of Buddhist monastery ... most likely just a symbol of peace.

Lens: EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
Camera: Canon EOS 5D
Location: Lamayuru, Ladakh, India

the information is so interesting and the image is a beautiful Trishula against the sky. I did not know that it was a trident that severed the head of Ganesh. I do think people appropriate symbols they find pleasing.

Himalayan Buddhism often coexists with Hinduism, with fusions of both religions being evident. Many shrines, places of worship and holy sites are used by both, and indeed the distinction between Hindu and Buddhist blurs somewhat. There is in particular a strong affinity between Buddhist and Shaivite throughout the Himalayan region (Shiva is reputed to have meditated in Gangotri when the Ganges fell on his hair and down to earth). Mt Kailash is his mythological abode and several other sites around the Himalayan region are considered significant.
