Our Tree of Life

One of the things that drew us to the property we are on is a huge Beech Tree. It is so massive it serves as a canopy over most of the back yard area. It gives plenty of shade to us as well as our chickens. It provides protection for our chickens from hawks and other predators. The base of the tree has pockets of root that fill up with water after it rains and our chickens drink from it. It also houses squirrels, frogs and of course birds. We have so much respect for this particular tree. You can see where names were carved into the side at some point and it has been here so long, what was once small names are these huge letters. I am not one to carve into trees but this certainly gives our tree some character. I wonder what kind of world it would be if everyone had a tree just like this.

I am sorry if I cannot reciprocate on comments as much as I would like to. I feel a little spread thin right now! I do look at all the photos that come through the Distressed group and appreciate all your wonderful images there!

One textured used, “Down By The River” from painted days.

If everyone could see the world through this image it certainly would be heaven on earth. I think that those of us who take the time to look at the world thru a photographers lens do see and appreciate the true beauty in this world. Well done Cheryl!

Amazing beauty. Even if everyone does not have such a tree, it would be grand if every child could grow up with such a tree :-)
Don't worry about being spread thin. Happens to us all.
    Take care of you :-)

You make amazing works of art, and this photograph was clearly a great one from the start. (Plus I love bikes.) In a story similar to the huge letters on your tree, my nephews and I were looking at a large tree in my mother's back yard yesterday. There's a one-foot piece of 2x4 nailed to the tree about 30 feet up. When I was a kid, my dad nailed boards into the tree as kind of a ladder to play on. Not very high at all. That board is one that is still on there, and the tree has grown and carried it along.

Once again you have blown me away by allowing us into your unique life. To have a tree like this is indeed a gift, as in your talent. I can just see those chickens drinking our of the pockets in the tree.
