cocoon man

Taken tonight at Gasworks Park in Seattle.

The above series of paper mache sculptures that seem to depict a bronze man at various states of emergence-- from a cocoon-like form to a standing figure-- appeared mysteriously this morning at Gas Works.

A wooden sign says the sculptures symbolize awakening and are a gift to Seattle, and that the artist will take them down "when the rains come."

The bronze bodies are drawing a crowd of appreciative shutterbugs, and not a moment too soon. Seattle Parks is planning to take them down Thursday, which will no doubt disappoint many.

"This is what's cool about Seattle," one woman said of the display.
