Making the Cut

Making the Cut by JeremyHall.
I am at the final stages of sending my Osmond Tour book to print today. It has been long in development and even longer in the final editing/changes/publishing stages. It's almost there, now down to just getting final printing arranged and getting delivered to the online stores that will be fulfilling it.

Through this process it has been very difficult to pick out which photos "make the cut" to the final pages of the book. In my previous publication, it was just one entertainer, so it was much easier to just look for various great shots of him. In this go around, there are 7 entertainers to try and fairly represent throughout the book; a much bigger task than I had previously anticipated.

Today's image is one of the shots from the tour that I really like that just didn't make the cut. I already had too many shots of Donny, and too many from the back of the stage. Though this was a poignant moment at the last concert in the UK, it also showed only Donny when the tour was about the entire family and not just him. Again, a tough decision, but in the editing process it hit the digital cutting room floor.

Perhaps someday I can publish a "photographer's cut" kind of selection of my favorite shots taken over time and can include many shots that appealed to me as a photographer more than what needed to be included in a current publication.

While I am highly anticipaiting the “tour book” - I have to tell you that I would be first in line to purchase any table photo book you’d consider publishing of your personal favorites that didn’t make the cut. I’ve said it time and time again….you are a master at your craft and you have rekindled the desire in me to pursue my own passion for photography. Your shoes are somewhat too huge to fill.

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays!

I hope that your book can be purchased directly from the Internet and for Christmas because it would be a great gift idea. I am also very curious to see the results of your work.
The selection of photos to include in the book must necessarily be a difficult choice, all the photos for you to represent a part of yourself.
I still do not understand English very well so I do not much comment but this does not mean that I am not concerned and I am just a polite visit NO, on the contrary, I take obvious pleasure consult your work.
Thank you for your kindness to give me a little for your interest in some of my photos. I appreciate enormously, from you is an honor for me.

Excellent Jeremy, thanks for the image and the story. I would be interested in purchasing your book, for the interest I have and the quality of your work that continues to help and inspire me. I have done up an online book myself this year that I will give to my parents at Christmas. it is simply random images that I have taken and like.

Congrats on your book! Look forward to seeing it.

This shot is fabulous as it shows the massiveness of the audience/fans at the concert. Very memorable moment for Osmond.

If this photo was CUT, I can only imagine what actually STAYED?! Your work has always blown me away, and I know that because of your ability to stir emotion, even if it's a still shot!

Thanks for sharing, my mother is a HUGE Donny fan. I bet she'd LOVE your book.... it would be a killer Christmas gift, and better yet, I could tell her I know the photographer and the guitarist! ;) haha.

jeremy, all the shots you have posted of this tour that i have viewed are exceptional. it must have been very difficult in making those decisions...especially when shots like this upload did not make the cut. I wish you much success with the book, hope you keep us posted. wishing you and yours a beautiful and thankful holiday.

this is fantastic, Jeremy!

I imagine it must be frustrating creating a book of photos you know they want....but you know you have something better!
I think that - like the movies have 'the director's cut', that photo books should offer 'the photographer's cut' - what a brilliant idea!

I think your abilities go far beyond 'capable'....it's always a delight to visit your work!

Jeremy: I know people who were at this show and said this moment (which you brilliantly captured) was quite touching and poignant! I've also heard from people who own the book (I'm still saving for it ;) ) that it is absolutely magnificent! CONGRATS on capturing such a special occasion -- so beautifully! Best wishes, Susan
