Navajo Pottery - Studio Lighting

Navajo Pottery - Studio Lighting

Some of my Navajo Pottery and turquoise jewelry. This is actually a homework assignment for my Studio Lighting class at Weber State University. My Photographic experience has been primarily shooting sports, nature, wildlife and outdoor scenery, so I decided to take this class to expand my horizons in my old age.

Shoshone Falls Idaho

Shoshone Falls Idaho

I wanted a winter picture of these falls and although there wasn't any snow (strange for the middle of January), the ice around the falls made a good contrast. This is a single shot HDR from a RAW file using Photomatix.

Bald Eagle -2

Bald Eagle -2

Beautiful Bald Eagle found near Elba Idaho. This was the closest shot and he wasn't very happy about it. Shot at 1/800 sec, f/6.3 at 500mm.

Beautiful Bald Eagle found near Elba Idaho. I was able to get fairly close, but he wasn't very happy about it. Shot at 1/800 sec, f/6.3 at 500mm.

Eurasian Collared Dove

Eurasian Collared Dove

This beautiful Eurasian Collared Dove (I originally posted it as a Mourning Dove but was informed that it is in fact a Eurasian Collared Dove) gave us a visit in the back yard this morning. Great way to start the day!

Originally found near the Bay of Bengal in Asia, this dove began its range expansion in the 1600’s. By 1900, it had made its way to Turkey, and by 2000 could be found as far north as the Arctic Circle in Scandinavia. Expansion into North America occurred in the early seventies when the collared dove appeared in the Bahamas. Since 1982, when first discovered in Florida, it has been gradually making its way north and west. Nineteen ninety-seven marked the first official report of Eurasian collared doves in Orem, Utah. Now they have spread throughout the state. This is the first one I've seen.
