Ouch. That's just frightening. I think what it's saying is, "We don't care what you think--we just like making money."

Ah--I was misinterpreting "richer" and, I guess, "world."

I've been looking at these ads for days. I THINK what they're saying is that some people place a premium on organic food, some on imported food, and some on engineered "superfoods". And that HSBC is prepared to lend you money at an exorbitant rate no matter what you believe in.

I've never understood the HSBC ads. Perhaps my brain isn't attuned to banking ads. That's probably a good thing.

Ya know, given that everyone has their superannuation tied up in global investments, I'd say we're not too far behind the US and the UK. I sure am glad I don't have any assets, say, like a house that would be depreciating rapidly right about now.

Unrestrained capitalism has shown and proven once again that it will fail. But sadly its failure is in the process of ruining so many lives through unemployment and blown pension investments.

And the cascading effects will be felt for a long time as the disease spreads--wait till all the people who are or will be laid off have to pay their credit card bills with income that is or will be gone.

This newly impoverished group of people had little or nothing to do with the greed that fueled the banks and investment houses and their policies and decisions that caused the failure. Noted bootlegger, antisemite, & racist, Joseph Kennedy (JFK & RFK's dad), who was Roosevelt's appointee as chair of the Security & Exchange Commission way back when, said, "All businessmen are sons of bitches." I don't think he was talking about the mom & pop places, but the greedy bastards so beautifully captured in the flick, Wall Street, who seemed to be strutting and flaunting their wealth this last decade or two.

A key reason for the current crisis is the outcome of the derigulation that started with Reagan, was continued by Clinton, & hit the jackpot with Bush & Greenspan.

Getting back to the original question--I don't know what HSBC's ad means, but HSBC is a British company that engineered a number of U.S. bank takeovers and has major outlets all over the world--which I guess accounts for imported and engineered.

Perhaps organic is a reference to the humans that HSBC's growth depends and preys upon.

In the interest of full disclosure the mortgage and home equity credit line for the condo "owned" by my wife and me is, of course, from HSBC... it offered the best rates at the time.
