About 300,000 date palms constitute the desert oasis of Siwa, hundreds of kilometers from nowehere in the Egyptian Sahara. Isolated from even Egyptian rule for centuries until WWII, the community developed a unique Berber culture particularly in its language, textiles and mud-brick homes.
