The man in the middle is Ed Traynor; he is a rather well known ceramic artist and is one the artists represented in the Common Ground exhibition at the American Museum of Ceramic Art in Pomona, California. www.ceramicmuseum.org/exhibitions/current-exhibitions

The Common Ground exhbition covers the explosion of studio ceramic art and education in Southern California since the end of the Second World War. This exhibition is part of the larger Pacific Standard Time regional exhibition which is running concurrently at over 60 institutions all over Southern California.

The book is the catalog of the 1994 exhibition of Gustave Caillebotte at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and is open to the the image of “Man on a Balcony”. Certain elements seem to have come together in this photograph; elements of influence, elements of style, photographers and a couple of painters who have inspired are here, without it seems, any conscious effort on my part.
