Spread the Word

Spread the Word by redox9k.
I was walking down Yonge street in Toronto and I came accross this man passing out flyers. To get people's attention he would scream out "JESUS!" when you would least expect it. I like how everything else but his face is out of focus. In order to get this shot I had to pre-set my camera and walk by him 4-5 times unsuspectingly taking shots down by my waist composing the shot in my mind instead of the viewfinder. He was spreading the word... literally.

Once again, dope shot. I love black & white, sepia or duotones for this street stuff.
I wish more people were on the streets yesterday when I was out walking about the city. oh well, as it gets warmer out! :D

Thanks dude. Yeah definately.. street photography is great to view without colour. I'm starting to get more into it and trying to develop a style that I like.

Yeah, Finding a style that is your own is really tough.
hahah I still don't think I've found mine after shooting for 10 months.
But yeah man, It's almost like street photography is your calling.

I like this one a lot.

The crisp focus on the subject (guy in the hat) draws my attention to that part of the picture, and the blurry evening lights look great against the glowing sky in the background.

I'm not quite sure about the off-vertical lamp-standard, but the diagonal slope of the street works for me because the dude in the touque is gazing along that plane.

One observation: keep an eye out for so-called "joins," ie, in this case, it looks as though a spear is impaled in the guy's cranium. (Well, not really a spear, but you get the idea.)

roscoe: I think you're right about the street lights on the guy's head. Sometimes these things can't be helped though :)

Thanks everyone!

Jeff, in your explanation of the photo, you say the guy's face is out focus, but to my eye, I think it looks fine. Could all be relative, though, of course. That is to say, he might just be less blurry than the background, while still being slightly blurry. Hard to really discern when the picture is this small. Whatever the case, however, I think the guy's face serves as a strong focal point for the picture. Considering the challenging circumstances, you did really well technically in grabbing such a shot.

yo Roscoe, my comments might have been confusing:

"I like how everything else but his face is out of focus"

I mean that his face is the only thing in focus :) I agree with you though that the eye is attracted to things in focus and I wanted his face to be the focal point.
