Druid Hill Pool

The large Department of Rec & Parks bldg was the pool entrance. I don't know if it still is. There were open lockers for hanging one's clothes up and mandatory showers when passinf from the building (lower level) to the pool deck. My father told me of meeting Hack Wilson, the old baseball great, there one day -- Hack was the pool locker room attendant -- how his career had slipped (alcohol, I'm told). There were large trees in front of the building, surrounded by stone vaults that circled the trees and were some 6' deep, as I recall. I suspect the general elevation of the ground had been raised that much, and the ground at the bottom of the tree enclosures was at the original elevation.
