Thanks for the compliments! Really was a nail. I wedged the nail into the barrel of what had once been a metal ballpoint pen. i have scratched on several hundred CDs and only had to sharpen the nail 3 times. All done freehand, no straight edge.(For reasons unclear to me, it is very very easy to make straight lines when scratching on optical plastic.) I don't know if a print could be made from the CD, but probably one could. If I shine a small bright flashlight beam on the surface of the CD in a dark room, patterns are reflected on the ceiling, walls, etc. (It took a bit of experimentation before I got optimum effects.)

For over twenty yearsI have been making dry-point 'etchings' in about everything I could lay may hands on, all kinds of thin plastic and tin, and never ever I thougt of using a CD! I wish I had, I love circle-prints and it is very hard to make a real good circle from plastic materials...indeed straight scratching is much easier than writing or making round forms. I am sure a print can be made with an etching press!

wonderful picture, I love your art

Thanks Brendan! Thanks, pilnik99! And thanks, Kate--(It has taken me many years to make this intricate art. It has required insane dedication and a willingness to spend years as a homeless "loser" as people spit on me and curse me. I had thought that making art was an emotionally neutral activity, but after having observed many people become enraged (even to the point of physically attacking me] when they see me drawing ["QUIT DOODLING!! GET A JOB LIKE THE REST OF US!!] I now know better... To answer your question specifically, this cd art took me approximately 18 hours to complete.)

Outstanding beyond words. Yes, you could make prints from these with very basic materials...a cosmetic sponge from drug store, water colors, and some "Wondra" flour in a can from the grocery store plus a drop or 2 of dish washing detergent.
Or the more traditional way of printing inks, and a brayer from art supply store.

However I could see a gallery installation of the CDs with lights shining the images on walls.

I feel so badly that people treat you like that. Your work should be sold...have you looked into etsy.com? Its free to have a shop, but Iyou need a credit card.

You could also find someone who prints up photographic prints (maybe an art or photography student from a college?)...they could shine a bright light on photo paper to get a print that way maybe.

Amazing! Your intricate craftsmanship is both a playful delight and an impressive new art media innovation!
Please forgive the gluttony of my voracious viual appetite here, but I couldn't help but think about how doubly (trippily?) sweet it would be to see a hanging mobile sculpture constructed of these discs. Of course, the label side of the discs would look even better with your pen-&-ink work printed and pasted on them!
Don't even get me started on how much I'd love to see your work on textiles! Great (and time-less) stuff!
