American Flag at the Vietnam Memorial
This is a photo of the American flag at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. The American flag is a symbol of freedom, liberty, justice, and opportunity known all over the world.
I took this photo standing almost directly beneath the flag pole and pointing up so as to catch the sun on the other side of the fabric, which is what provides the washed out color. It was also pretty windy out that day, which made for the beautiful ripples and textures in the fabric.
The resulting photo came out very bright/overexposed, super-saturated, and is -- by far -- the single most popular photo in my Flickr photostream.
I'm glad that everyone likes this photo so much -- thanks for visiting and feel free to comment below about what the American flag means to you!

God Bless America
Here they go again,
The Yanks in their armoured parade
Chanting their ballads of joy
As they gallop across the big world
Praising America's God.
The gutters are clogged with the dead
The ones who couldn't join in
The others refusing to sing
The ones who are losing their voice
The ones who've forgotten the tune.
The riders have whips which cut.
Your head rolls onto the sand
Your head is a pool in the dirt
Your head is a stain in the dust
Your eyes have gone out and your nose
Sniffs only the pong of the dead
And all the dead air is alive
With the smell of America's God.

Hey!
I loved your picture so much that I used it on my site raisedpath.com. You really captured the American Spirit in your photograph. I used it in a post this morning. I also created a link with your name tracking back to your page giving you credit. I believe this is the standard protocol, but I just discovered flickr recently.
Thanks for making your work available to the public. You Rock!!

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'
