The last time I checked out Universal Records' CD&DVD Clearance Sale was in 2007. I guess it's a yearly thing.
It's pretty straightforward, you just go to the 10th Floor of the Building (it's the one with the Smart Wireless Center at the ground floor) ...it's almost across National Bookstore. Upon getting there, they'll give you a box to pile them CDs.
The quality of stuff on sale is pretty objective, depending on your preference. They mostly have a lot of Jazz CDs, some OPM, an unnatural collection of Eurocheese and some CDs that used to sell for Php2,500.00 5 years ago - now at a bargain price of Php50.00.
In 2007, I got some M.I.A, Cat Power, New Pornographers, Club 8, Ivy, Architecture in Helsinki, Aimee Mann, Interpol, The Concretes, Belle and Sebastian CDs at a bargain.
This year's haul was a bit different, I got a couple of CDs by Paul Weller and Morrissey, some mainstream acid jazz, a Saint Etienne record, Daft Punk Live, an AIR album, a replacement PB&J record and two CDs by William Hung (to be given as a special gift to a friend of mine).
Everything else are wildcards. I don't know if they're any good. But that's the fun part.
If you wanna look for bargains all-year-round, Music One in National Bookstore Quezon Ave. has a pretty decent inventory of Php50.00 CDs, mostly coming from Japan.
