Mama Kitty doesn't get a lot of air time, but she along with her son Blackie are the 3rd and 4th kitties in our clan.
I'm not a believer in outdoor kitties, which is why Mama and Blackie have caused me much grief. They are not indoor cats.
When we moved to our last house I noticed this black and white cat often in my neighbors yard. Every so often I'd see her being fed. She was not very tame but seemed sweet. Well, after a short absence I saw her again... this time with kittens in tow. Three litters later I said... screw it... and told my neighbor (who was very sweet) that I was going to trap Mama, and her two newest kittens and get them fixed. ( I knew of only one kitten from previous litters who was still alive/around but he was the wildest of them all he took almost another year to trap and fix.) So, I took over the duties of feeding and caring for Mama and the oldest boy. Evan and his Mother and I spent one Holiday socializing her youngest kittens... Grumples and Little Girl.. and while Grumples stayed with us... Little Girl went to the shelter where I worked and later to a great home.
Fast forward to us moving... I spent 3 years getting to know these wild kitties... trapping them to take care of them, slowing getting them to trust me, but trying my hardest not to claim them as my own. But how could I move and leave them? The answer is I couldn't. After a week spent in tears trying to figure out what to do with two feral cats I packed them up and drove with 4 cats and a dog to our new home.
Mama and Blackie spent about 3 weeks in our laundry room and garage and then slowly were allowed to venture outside. The come home twice a day to eat and have spent the last few chilly nights in the garage. Mama is an amazing little girl and yesterday when I went out to take pictures... of something that was not a cat... she kept running around the yard like a maniac... showing off :)
We are fortunate enough to live in a quiet neighborhood on a beach road... they have woods and wild to explore. Mama recently woke me up at 4am yelling at the door... I went running out, thinking something was wrong and she was proudly parading around a present she brought me... the back end of a rat.
Anyway, this is Mama Kitty. She is awesome.

Groggy but good...
Thanks to everyone that pitched in Mr. Home Depot was able to go today and get all fixed up! He is still mildly doped up but is resting in his comfy bed with his teddy bear friend :)
You guys know who you are and you are awesome... every single dollar donated is helping make sure this boy is very well taken care of until we find him his forever family.
And let me tell you... what a lucky family it will be!
