Harlequin Flower Beetle

Harlequin Flower Beetle by jciv.
Harlequin Flower Beetle
Gymnetis caseyi

Found in South Texas, it was about an inch long. Never seen one before. I got a bunch of shots before it flew away.

Taken with my Raynox DCR-250 macro adapter with a CCRRFD MiLC ring flash diffuser.

One of the winners of the Member's Choice Theme in Closer and Closer Macro Photography.

Tied for Third Place in the Anything Yellow macros contest Amateur Macros.

This is an amazing shot!

What you have here is a scarab beetle, I think there is only one species it could be: the harlequin flower beetle, Gymnetis caseyi. [bugguide.net link]

How I got it to sit still was part it was recovering from drowning and it was on a smooth white plastic plate which gave it very little grip to walk on. That plate is also how I got the featureless white background.

Thanks for all the comments, favs, and invites.
