Baby barn owls. I found them in an old pump shed that was supposed to be disconnected so the hissing sound coming from there was really weird. It would go on and off at night and sounded like water moving through the pipes. During the day, everything looked shut off and there were no noises. The next night I figured out what was making the noise. I took photos too.

It did. When I got close enough to tell it was coming from above (where there are no pipes), I started thinking about what animals make hissing noises. Once I knew it was owls, I still didn't want to stick my camera or hand in there.

Thanks for sharing this. What a rare find. I find it hilarious because it looks like they are daring each other to check the camera out and see what it is.

Ha ha ha, this is just too much! First of all the story behind, then looking and listening and SUDDENLY they are four instead of just two! And then that Daredevil jump... did you jump then, too? The camera seems somewhat steady through it all.
Posted 10 months ago. ( permalink )

view profile

jciv  Pro User  says:

You need to watch it again, it wasn't a daredevil jump. It was his brother sacrificing him to the camera monster. The video does jerk a bit at that moment.

Wow, this is absolutely fantastic J. I too thought there were only 2 then...boom, there were four. Yeah, it's funny how they started to mess with each other towards the end. Awesome!!

Nope, my dad did. I didn't want to risk my camera. Actually, I figured his was a better shape to get in there easily than my S5. Getting my SLR in there was very difficult and I was forced to shoot sideways.

What an incredible find. I stumbled on a nest of them in a bluff one time. Couldn't see them, just that hair raising hissing sound coming out of the small cave they were in.
A barred owl raised 3 young ones in a sycamore tree behind my house. It was hilarious listening to them trying to learn to hoot. In the beginning it was just a series of these hideous, strangled growls. Too funny.
