Gregory Hunter

Gregory Hunter is currently a deputy director of the Community and Economic Development Agency (CEDA) of the City of Oakland. His management portfolio includes redevelopment, economic development, real estate, commercial lending and marketing. Hunter administers a staff of 80 employees who provide a wide range of services related to business attraction and expansion, commercial loans, neighborhood improvement, development assistance and the marketing of Oakland. Hunter has held the position of deputy director for three and a half years and has served in various management capacities with the City of Oakland for 13 years.

 

Other positions held by Hunter have included East Oakland redevelopment manager, commercial lending manager, assistant to the CEDA executive director and assistant to the city manager. While holding these various positions with the City, Hunter has had the opportunity to work with multiple community organizations in assisting them bring positive change to their neighborhoods through the attraction of new businesses, the introduction of public infrastructure projects, the stabilization of cultural programming, providing access to higher education services, and supporting private investment for the creation of housing opportunities and industries that expand the Oakland job market.

 

Hunter completed his undergraduate education at Southwest Texas State University receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Urban Planning. He was selected as a National Urban Fellow in 1995 and undertook his graduate studies at Baruch College-City University of New York, earning a Master of Public Administration.
