Yesteryear's Tools...

Let's Do 52

Week: 8

Theme: Simplicity - I used PTM's Heist and a linen overlay to get this effect.

This was a display at a one hundred year old school house with vintage items set up all throughout. I loved the ease I felt looking at this display, the thought of yesteryear's bakers armed with everything they needed at the time to make their baked goods. Seems so simple and yet it was likely even more difficult as it was only two hands and a heart beat that produced the bread and cakes and not the Artisan Kitchen Aid (which, don't get me wrong, I adore). A simpler time, perhaps.

Two sidenotes: One: If you are ever in Stony Plain, Alberta, go to the Homesteader's Diner for THE BEST apple-raspberry crumble pie ever. And two: It is more than likely that I had the biggest urge to take these beautiful old mixing bowls home with me - but resisted!!! They really were lovely :)

The Gaudy Green Tea Pot...

The Gaudy Green Tea Pot...

Let's Do 52

Week: 7

Theme: Pretty Ugly (find beauty in everything) - I used Vintage Fairytale to process this photo

A while back, I spied this little greenish tea pot at an antique mall that was clearly right out of the seventies and instantly fell in love. I suspect it had been passed over several times due to its "outdated" look (and also because it was covered in dust) and the lady at the counter check-out actually said "Oh you're buying the gaudy green tea pot!" (hence the title). But I thought she was beautiful, 70's browny-green gaudiness be derned! And had to make her mine! Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. She's pretty to me!

The colourful soldiers...

The colourful soldiers...

Let's Do 52

Week: 6

Theme: Linear - I used PTM's Ambient to lighten this photo as the time of day and the setting was a being difficult to deal with in terms of lighting.

My good friend and her little ones were over for a visit this morning. I've always LOVED crayons and even at the age of thirty-three always have a box on hand. The kidlets and I lined them up in a straight line (with this project in mind of course) each lovely colour one by one and proceeded to pretend that they were colourful soldiers standing at attention. Luckily I snapped the picture before little hands excitedly but mercilessly knocked them over like dominos. Fun!

My heart...

My heart...

Let's Do 52

Week 5

Theme: Self Portrait with a Loved One - I used PTM Beloved to process this photo and it was accomplished with my tripod and timer

This is me with a painting of my precious Grandmother - Enid. She passed away nearly 5 years ago and took a little piece of my heart with her. The gift of being hers was one of the greatest gifts given to me in life. The painting was done after she passed away for her four girls, my mother being one of them. So this is me with my loved one, my beautiful grandmother.

While glancing over my shoulder...

Let's Do 52

Week: 4

Theme: Unexpected Perspective - I processed this photo with PTM's Vintage Fairytale (because of its name, it's an auto favourite!!!)

Today as I was reading and attempting to think of what to do for this week's project, I happened to look up over my shoulder to check the time on the clock and found this. I love old books, and I especially love old books on a dusty shelf. And this was how I saw them from my chair.

"The love of learning, the sequestered nooks,
And all the sweet serenity of books." ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
