Nittany Lion Fade Away Jump

Junior Penn State guard Talor Battle shoots a fade away jump shot against two Virginia Tech defenders at Bryce Jordan Center. Battle scored a career-high 32 points but our Nittany Lions fell short to the Hokies, 64-66. (December 12, 2009)

The Blizzard's Leftovers

I decided to go out and photograph the beginnings of a large snowstorm in my college town of Lock Haven, PA. About 1-2 inches of snow had already fallen when I took this photo, with another several inches fallen by morning.

Four second exposure. You can see the snow trails in the top of the image.

Light Paint, Young Grasshoppers!

I teach a photography workshop at Lock Haven University that basically deals with basic digital materials and techniques. Tonight, however, we worked with night and low light photography. As such, we did long nighttime landscape exposures, headlight trails, ambient lighting and shadows, and course, light painting!

Naturally, there are a lot of fantastic light painters on flickr to model for my students. This work above was done by three of my students on their own with my camera. One shot the green-gelled strobe; another fired the purple-gelled strobe; and the third operated the shutter release and set the bulb exposure. The orange craziness in the window is about 10 super bright ambient sodium vapor lights on campus.

Not too bad for a group of first timers, eh?
