The old Asian names are the most difficult. Kind of a guess on some of them.

Karen and Paul,

Thanks for the tips. I've posted an updated version. But I think Vincent van Gogh is the fellow blowing the horn next to Margaret Thatcher. Why the horn? Possibly to hide part of his face.

I'm pretty sure that Soctrates, Aristotle and Plato are in the picture, but they all look the same, so It's difficult to figure out who is who.

I don't think I would have ever guessed Lewis Carroll. You are correct. The same wavy hair is in this photo of Lewis Carroll.

Same with Oppenheimer. I'd never guess him. But he certainly was an influential person. Here is the photo of J. Robert Oppenheimer.

I think the guy with the Horn is Ulysses S grant. Kevorkian is at the table next to Freud. (above mike tyson). That might be Henry Ford next to Chaplin, with the small car (maybe a model T) by his foot. You have Tolstoy at the table with the accordian. Then I think that is Marcos at the table with Saddam, sitting next to who I also think is Teddy Roosevelt. Bismark by the wall close to Gorbachev, and I think that is Hirohito kneeling as someone said before. Nietzsche is next to Marx at the table. Is that John Wayne next to Bush, looks like him but I can't tell for sure. Louie XV to the right of Clinton. Rockefeller to the left of Jordan. The old Chinese guy next to Monroe could be Lao Tzu, but a lot of the chinese ones are very simmilar. The one with the paint on his back is Van Gogh.

Thanks for the super post. It helped a lot. I put in some of the suggestions and will continue to research some of the others.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Kevorkian is at the table next to Freud. (above mike tyson).

Not a perfect match to the Kevorian I remember, but there are some similarities - white hair, round eyeglasses.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Sigmund Freud - Yup, I agree
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

That might be Henry Ford next to Chaplin, with the small car (maybe a model T) by his foot.

The hair and face look similar to Henry Ford
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Then I think that is Marcos at the table with Saddam, sitting next to who I also think is Teddy Roosevelt.

There are a lot of Marcos - do you have the first name?
I don't see anyone that resembles Teddy Roosevelt
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Is that John Wayne next to Bush, looks like him but I can't tell for sure.

It might be, but the picture has very dark hair. And it looks like some military insignias on his shoulder. I'm not sure it isJohn Wayne
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The old Chinese guy next to Monroe could be Lao Tzu, but a lot of the chinese ones are very simmilar.

I think you nailed this one.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I think the guy with the Horn is Ulysses S grant.
I'm not sure - does not look similar.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

You have Tolstoy at the table with the accordian.

Thanks for the Tolstoy tip
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Bismark by the wall close to Gorbachev,

Yup, I agree.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

and I think that is Hirohito kneeling as someone said before.
Looks like him, but what a terrible pose for an emperor.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Nietzsche is next to Marx at the table.

You are correct.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Louie XV to the right of Clinton.

Not sure. Did he ever have a mustache? All the photos I found were clean shaven.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Rockefeller to the left of Jordan.

OK
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The one with the paint on his back is Van Gogh.

Thanks
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I agree.

Not sure, the picture looks too thin for Hitchcock

I'm pretty certain that it is him, because dress, look, and facial hair (as well as actual hair) seem a match, even if not 100% on the mark.

Someone on digg found the source of the pictures and the artists, here is the link in chinese.

bk.baidu.com/view/1234818.html

I did a online tranlation and came up with some errors and what not.

The guy kneeling isn't hirohito it's. Hideki Tojo

Li Bai it says is the one laying back on the chair.

Also there is in fact Dolly the sheep, good call.

The Moses one it says is suppose to be either Noah or Moses, to envoke discussion.

It seems the three guys with Dante on the wall are the artists who did this work.

It's a bit hard to make out since the translation is bad but it seems the guy listed as plato on the pic here is supposed to represent either Socrates or Homer, or both.

There is the artist's homepage, I can't seem to translate any of it because it keeps giving errors. But apparently there it lists all the people.

Apparently the painting is called "Discusses the Divine Comedy with Dante"

cliptank.com/PeopleofInfluencePainting.htm# Someone has made the picture with Wiki links. They seem to have most of them done, but they have some of them wrong I think.

I updated the picture by adding reference numbers to each name and slightly reduced the font sizes. Some more names have been added as well.

You can translate Chinese into English using Google. It is far from perfect, but a heck of a lot better than anything I could do.

The website is google.com/translate
At the bottom of the page is a translate option for an entire web page.

The chinese guy with the Camera is suppose to be Run Run Shaw.

Also something I find interesting is the Moses/Noah character has Darwin's face. This is what I would assume the reference picture is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Charles_Darwin_18 80.jpg

The guy with his arms crossed over his chest and glasses above Rodin is Corneliu Baba.

The guy under Linen's arm with the pointy hat with the red star is Ho Chi Min

Thanks again Lemonherbwrx. Wikipedia and Google are great services to help identify these paintings, but even with all their power, there are several images that I am still not confident in. The one with Bill Gates for instance. He looks a bit too bulky, but I can't find anyone else.

The old chinese guy under kofi Anon is Qi Bashi en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi_Baishi

Many are hard to identify because of the art and others I think are meant to represent multiple people. Take the Moses character, he looks very biblican and with his staff you identify him with Moses. But then he is leading animals as Noah would, but with the face of Darwin. So the Noah/Darwin connection is somewhat thought provoking.
