I've photographed the lights every year since we moved downtown. This year it felt different...the gloomy weather, lack of progress after eight years at Ground Zero and an acceptance of craziness as legitimate political discourse... made me think of this quote:
"You can tell you have created God in your own image when it turns out that he or she hates all the same people you do."
It seems the one thing we haven't learned is that hate only diminishes the hater and (except for a short term adrenalin rush) offers nothing that improves our collective situation.
