RC: For a little more constructive criticism, I'd like to ask what the subject is. The mouth of the jar sure is pretty to photograph, but the money in it seems to be more important to see in detail. Maybe one shiny coin head in mostly sharp focus would be enough. Technically, I find nothing to critique.

markuchi: great question. i can't really go into exactly what the project was that inspired this image, but my general thought from the brief was "a striking, simple and interesting jar of coins that is universally recognizable and conveys the possibilites of loose change." the jar ostensibly organizes the coins, and this image presents the jar being upset (literally) to show that, through the extreme perspective, loose change can be transformed from something staid and forgotten into something more exciting-- the coins are forced into the foreground, landing on the lap of the viewer, as it were. it was designed to be used on a print piece, so its standalone value was tangential to its creation. however, i do think the high contrast and depth of field is interesting in an abstract way. i realize, as i look at it more, that you can't tell exactly what the coins are (of course, most in the us will grok the denominations immediately). this can be, i think, rather useful for a designer, as you can use this for canadian and uk (etc) markets while being (semi) plausible. again, abstract and generic. as the tags connote, it's meant more for stock image value than art. (or something. really put my art historian hat on there.)
