Oriental Darter

Oriental Darter by Jayanth Sharma.
Darters are expert fishing birds which dive in to the water and often come back with delicious snacks like these. Darters are also called Snake Birds due to their long necks which appear like the snakes.

that is a catfish, now that's interesting. looking at the level of water, it is hard to guess that catfish would be so easy to catch. does the darter swoop down on its catch like an eagle or does it swim and fish like a duck? if it is the second case, then the catfish is justified.

Zeeshan,
Darters are divers. They disappear underwater for minutes and appear with fish like these. You are looking at a photo where the catfish has been caught a few minutes before. Here it is trying to kill it and then change the orientation of the fish so that it can swallow the head first, since it has no hands - it tosses up till it gets the right leading angle.
I am not sure if we can "guess" how easy or difficult was it for the darter. Darters dont pickup floating fish they get in to deeper waters and pick up their prey.

thanks jay. i confused diving with swooping. anyway, the catfish is justified. catfish live in mud, so it can't be caught unless one is diving to the bottom and taking it out.
