I blogged it here. Sorry, it's very rambling and ineloquent (for a change! Heh.) but I am a little bit shaken up right now.

I know face recognition has to be apart of UK's extensive camera network. It's such a clear photo (camera phone?) it should be easy to find him. If he committed a crime send it into the news ASAP- They may pick up the story. Media is always looking for some sensationalism this time of year which could work in your favor. in New York this has been 100% successful in catching subway losers and the image quality was 1/3 that of your posted image.

SAMN says:

Hi there. Excuse my english, and excuse me about what i'm gonna say. It's just my oppinion.
I don't know you, and I think that what you said that happened is very sad. It's one of the worst things that can happen to anyone. And I support your idea of showing this "criminal", and alerting your friend through here and your blog.
But you used the internet. Your history has gone worldwide. Dozens of blogs reproduced this photo, many of them claiming for justice, even in violent ways...
You posted your point of view, and doing this, you left no chance for this guy, guilty or not, to defend himself. There is a possibility, even if you don't see it, that he is innocent. you judged him, even if that wasn't your intent. And, sorry once more, I don't think it's up to you to do it. Or to anyone who wrote anything about it.
As I imagine, the video from the security cameras of the train you were "assaulted" will be in youtube soon. This guy will be found, soon or later. I hope you did the right thing. Couse if you did wrong, you could have destroyed this guy's life, wanting or not.

I'm sorry, but there is no more possibility that this guy is innocent than there is that I am not typing this comment with my own two hands. In addition to me, there were dozens of witnesses. The CCTV video could only get on YouTube if Transport for London or the police leaked it to YouTube. Get real.

SAMN,

If your mother was assaulted like this, and after she told you the story and presented you with a photo of the attacker, would your first response be to doubt her and suggest that the remedy for 'anything that just might have been a little strange on the tube that night' would start with a potentially leaked police video on YouTube?

I don't think so. I think there's something else at play here. Maybe you just don't trust dynamist. If you don't, quit trying to convince her to replace her memory with your opinion (which you can somehow do with a straight face even though you weren't there and take all of the information about the incident directly from her) and just tell her so. If you trust her, support what she has done regarding finding the thug, which is her legitimate prerogative, and leave it at that.

I hope that no member of my family is ever assaulted in a similar fashion in your presence, because you probably wouldn't do anything to help them - you'd probably be too busy wondering about police videos being leaked to YouTube or the theoretical consequences of making a personal judgment.

In a sad way, I pity you.

Jackie, so sorry to read about this. It must have been horrible. I just hope this guy is found. Maybe it will teach him and his friends a lesson!

To Samn, who said "There is a possibility, even if you don't see it, that he is innocent. you judged him, even if that wasn't your intent."
This makes no sense to me. I have no reason to doubt Jackie, so maybe you can explain what you meant by "he is innocent"? For me he is guilty of harrassing my friend and should be punished for it. End of story.

This act was simply disgusting--showing the depths to which humanity can descend in its worst moments. It seems the internet community has taken up your cause, and I only hope it continues to gain momentum until justice is finally served. And better yet, let the momentum and awareness generated by this whole situation be channeled into preventing the same from happening to others.

Despite the depressing nature of this incident and its implications for humanity, the response of your blogging friends and the rest of the internet community is quite refreshing. I'm so used to reading polemics and tyrades on the 'net that I often forget there are still decent people out there--great people, even.

So I send my heart out to you and hope you are able to heal as best you can.

I've added this guy to my blog: tofangsazan-the.blogspot.com/
It's kind of appropiate as the guy named in my blog is an ebay scammer who used to take sneak pics of womens legs on the undergound (found on the hard drive when he sold his "broken laptop on ebay")....the two sites dedicated to this drummed up more than 4 million hits and world-wide shaming that recently had the guy interviewed by the BBC - all the info's on my blog.

@SAMN: You are a moron if you even halfway TRY to defend that scumbag.

@Jackie: If I were your friend, I'd ride the subway every day from now until I found him, I'd drag him out of the train and straight to a cop.

I am so sorry this happened to you.

The legality of this is pretty dubious. It's still one person's word against another's - and that doesn't really constitute proper legal process.

I have a feeling that the fact that it has been published will mean (according to UK law) that the accused can't now have a fair trial - so he now can't be charged. Dragging him to the police will be a waste of time I'm afraid.

This tactic of publishing photos along with aledged crimes - which basically leads to the accused to be punished without a trial is too easy to abuse.

I was physically assaulted on the Bakerloo Line platform at Baker Street, and on the train the two assailants continued to verbally abuse me. I took the photo as soon as it occurred to me to do so. The guy mocked me for forgetting to use the flash, but I told him I didn't need it...and he didn't seem to believe me.

This guy has all the hallmarks of a misfit who was constantly picked on at school. Having never dealt with such issues he is venting (projection) his insecurities onto those he feels most vulnerable of (women). He's a menace and should be flogged in public. I found this petition on the number 10 web site. You may wish to sign it.

I think it's ridiculous that Londoners are not allowed to carry pepper spray. If that guy attacked me, I would give him a blast of that spray. Without it, potential victims are helpless.

He looks like a fat prick.

Assuming he hasn't already been caught have you thought of emailing this picture to various schools in the area where he got on? he doesn't look so old. . what time of day was this? Perhaps he was on his way back from work/school and a few posters in the subway at Baker St. / on the Bakerloo line would help identify him? I really hate this aspect of London. Too often it seems these fuckers get away with stuff like this because they intimidate the victims and or onlookers. Ok, Daily Mail rant over, but seriously, fuck these guys. And if everyone watching had stepped in and stopped him he'd have been caught by now!

ps sorry for all the swearing . . .

pps my girlfriend is a teacher. If I were to forward it to her she could pass it on to other teachers in London - they all seem to know each other and maybe have some luck that way? Do you mind?
