Found In Translation

Found In Translation

(View the large version here.)

Poster design for an upcoming art show at Toronto's DeLeon White Gallery. It is a collective interdisciplinary exploration of the creative process, featuring visual art, sound, and live performances.

Eleven established artists from different media were interviewed about their creative process. From each of those interviews, a 'process statement' was conceived, a brief statement about the artist's process in general or about a particular process that has been successful. Those statements were anonymously handed out at random to eleven emerging artists (including myself) as a jumping block for a new work. Found in Translation will showcase these pieces which have been inspired by the interpretation of the creative process.

The promotional poster features the 'process statements' in one large block of text, arranged in a manner that does not reveal the entire text but allows the viewer to get glimpses into the statements which inspired the new art works. The poster's collage elements are a result of my own creative process of exploring various design possibilities for this poster.

CURRENTS / money grows on trees.

CURRENTS / money grows on trees.

We've all heard that money doesn't grow on trees. That was true only until I made this illustration for Ottawa-based post-punk band CURRENTS. The handlettered band name fuses into the roots of a money-bearing tree, whose character suits the aggressiveness of the music. We printed the 2-colour illustration onto t-shirts and posters, which were a hit with fans on the group's Eastern Canadian tour.
