Oil Derrick Worship

Oil Derrick Worship by skinr.
Crude Awakening just after sunrise at Burning Man 2007. The tower, with stairs that climbed 90 feet high, was burned in a huge explosion shortly after the project's completion. The figures in silhouettes are large metal statues welded from scrap metal and symbolize the world's major religions. The black specks on the horizon are people, and the blocks are trucks brought in by the artists building the installation.

this image is beautifully composed with gorgeous colour and light. I like the interplay between the figures and the tower. However, i find the border distracting and i think the thing i like the most about it is the work of the sculpture not the photographer. The photograph compliments the art but in this case the true value is rooted in the sculpture.

The defendant pulls off a very tricky type of image with grace. I think it deserves to stay this time.

I have a bad banding issue going on around the blown sun area. I like the image, but it lacks the deamlike quality of the defender.

I find the dreamy feel of the defenders has more interest for me against the silhouette of the scultpure. This is a very good photo but lacks something to give it that special and unique edge the defenders has.

Nicely captured and good timing with the sun and the silhouettes. But I'm voting for the defender here. The defender has an ethereal quality that is eerie and intriguing.

its a good photo and though I'm a burner myself. Its a photo of some one else's art. the defender is more original for that alone
