All in all, this project turned out great. It was my first attempt at metalwork and I learned a lot. The CUI board was easily applied to my design, and I'm very happy with the outcome.

ribbon cable connected
I decided to use two ribbon cables to connect the buttons to the board. This way I can completely disconnect the top case from the rest of the unit for maintenance and such.
