Mr. Jim H Crews and Dixie McGurn shown with a 110 lb. pumpkin grown in Crew's garden. "This is the biggest one I've ever seen," said Crews. Last year he reported growing on that weighed 60 lbs, but this one tops that by a long shot. He bought the seeds from Dixie, so he brought the pumpkin in for her to make pies. Dixie said she would have to recruit help when she started preparing the pumpkin. Another pumpkin grown this year in Crew's garden produced 70 pies. Crew's said, when asked if he grew the large pumpkin, "I just planted the seeds, God grew the pumpkin."

The third grade classes at Folkson Elementary School had a preliminary spelling bee in their classes on April 29 with one boy and one girl representing each homeroom. On may 1, the final spelling be was given by Mrs. Faye Carter in her classroom. The winners were Teresa O'Berry and Matt O'berry. At the end of school, each child will be presented a blue ribbon for being in the contest and the winners, and engraved trophy. Seated above are winners Matt O'berry and Teresa O'berry.
