Streamside salamander
KY: Woodford Co.

Streamside salamanders are commonly encountered crossing roads on rainy winter nights in central and eastern Kentucky. In late winter and early spring large numbers can be found beneath flat rocks in streams throughout much of the Bluegrass. Despite its abundance this species was recently petitioned to be listed as federally endangered (www.fws.gov/cookeville/pdfs/SePetitionFinal.pdf).
