Stop SOPA

Stop SOPA

Yet another post about SOPA & PIPA and how they are totally unacceptable solutions to the problem at hand. I rarely post twice in one day, but I feel so strongly about this, I decided to write a blog post about it. Not only will some major websites you use daily (for example, Wikipedia, Craigslist or YouTube, just to name a few) be forced to censor content according to the government's whims, or worse, accusations from anyone, but the potential harm that could come to indie biz owners or web operators is potentially beyond excessive.

I would seriously encourage you to continue to share this message. Help yourself to this image and share it freely, wherever. Let's do everything we can to keep the government from allowing this thing to happen. Check out www.americancensorship.org for more on the matter. And to write to your local representatives to do what you can.

scary laws

scary laws

The image above of Alcatraz is deliberately blacked-out. I think SOPA and PIPA are two seriously scary and threatening bills. People are having a hard time getting their head around what they could mean, so getting this message out is important. I am glad Flickr's giving folks the opportunity to make a statement.

I'm not usually very publicly political, but as a photographer with my own small-biz website, I think other people could really better understand the potential repercussions of SOPA if they check out this concrete example of how SOPA could totally screw over innocent photographers, small-biz people or even casual bloggers, CLICK HERE. Seriously, it will totally help personally clarify why everyone is in an uproar about this potential bill. As a Canadian living in the states, I am not allowed to vote and thus, I can't, for example, sign petitions related to my local government (fi they require your voting sector and the like). if you are able to do this, please stand up and have your voice heard.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr—thank goodness for you. More on him and the value of MLK Day on my blog. Please feel free to reuse this poster wherever—I think it's a message worth spreading.

In addendum:
So, somebody blacked out my photo above. Thank you, unknown person, I think getting this message out is important. I am glad Flickr's giving folks the opportunity to make a statement.

Teapot Greenery

Hey-hey! This is my front porch. I thought you could use a little of the San Diego weather in… wherever you live. So I wrote a blog post documenting a morning of propagating my succulents. Come check it out and soak in the happy weather!
