It's the series of woodsy islands the define the much smaller Lost Lake as separate from much larger Hamlin Lake. Early in October, this area was just barely getting started with fall color.

Three swans a swimming on a secluded finger of Hamlin Lake, almost a separate lake that the swans make call their own. Looking east through the passage is the main body of Hamlin Lake. I just liked the reeds and ripples, and the simple, gentle feeling here.

Still out on the islands along the Island Trail, this is Lost Lake, looking northwest. Lost Lake sits between the mainland and the islands. Hamlin Lake is on the east side of the islands. (It's the islands that define Lost Lake as being "separate" from Hamlin Lake.) See the trail map below for a better idea, and/or zoom in on the Google Map in this page but in satellite view.

(If you spot the broken liquor bottle -- just ignore it. Had I seen it when I was there, I would have taken removed it and thrown it away. If you visit and it's still there, you know what to do! I guess this is a sign of how popular this place can be in the summer.)
