Yesterday I was stopped by police while walking and given a summons for "Transporting Building Materials." I was carrying two wooden boards on my shoulder.

I need to mail this slip back in the next day to plead not-guilty. I feel like this is unjust. Especially because we can use anything as a building material.

"No person shall transport through, along or across a public street
or way used materials or parts of buildings or structures, including but
not limited to, piping, heating equipment, wiring, or other fixtures,
windows or parts thereof, doors, radiators, bricks, wood beams or other
parts, unless such person shall possess a bill of sale or other proper
proof of ownership or right to possession of same signed by the owner of
the building or structure, or one authorized by an appropriate legal
authority."

Yesterday I was stopped by police while walking and given a summons for "Transporting Building Materials." I was carrying two wooden boards on my shoulder. This video was taken afterwards by a plumer who was watching from across the street.

I need to mail this slip back in the next day to plead not-guilty. I feel like this is unjust. Especially because we can use anything as a building material. What should I do?

Update:
Here is the law in question. It seems like it's a you need a license to carry type situation. (For these pieces of wood? I don't believe it.) The definition of building materials here is over broad. It would include the little balsa wood beams they gave us for building model bridges in my high school's engineering club.

"No person shall transport through, along or across a public street

authority."
