Burned jungle

Burned jungle by Jami Dwyer.
Lacandon jungle burned for agriculture in Chiapas, Mexico. This was one of those times when it sucks to be a circumspect liberal. I snapped a few pictures of burning and burned jungle (it is constant), and everyone around always looked at me like I'd done something terribly rude. On the one hand, ohhh the environment. On the other, the people who burned this are Mayans, living traditional lives on the land instead of working for slave wages in a depressing factory.

After Flickr got censorius, I backed up this picture here:

hi pixeltoo. you can do whatever you like with this picture. i have released it to the public domain, though repeated irritation with wikipedia administration makes me regret that they specifically can use it.

but to emphasize, you can do whatever you like with this photo, including uploading it to wikimedia commons.

I've been to Chiapas. Whereabouts was this pic taken? I agree that there is a difference between native pillaging of the environment and corporate pillaging. So often we can pass judgment on traditional methods such as these, but it is the corporate pillaging that creates the real impact in this world. Thank you so much for sharing this shot in my group.

1Sock, this was near Lacanja Chansayab. I saw the extremely bad corporate form of this when I was flying into Cancun on a different trip. There were huge rectangular plots that looked like they'd been sprayed with Agent Orange. They had roads already set up for the mega-resorts to be built there. Grody.

I gave the necessary "Photo source for attribution" and other information.

Thank you very much.
