They drained the lochan by James Rose.
There was a leak at the old mill, apparently.
There's an expatriate Hiawatha story behind this lake, apparently, If only I could remember it.

I'm having a little trouble finding a detailed version of the story, but in short, Glencoe Lochan and the surrounding woodland were created by Lord Strathcona in the nineteenth century in an attempt to recreate the Pacific north-west for his homesick native-American wife.

The woods that you can walk through here (as we did) are beautiful, but fabricated! They've had a century or two to settle in, and they don't feel unnatural, but they're purpose-built to create not-typically-Scottish scenic vistas...
