Xubuntu

Xubuntu by James Morrison.
Had a go installing Xubuntu on the 9 year old home PC ( Celeron 400Mhz, 192MB RAM ). Previously running a dodgy copy of Windows 2000 which was becoming unuseable in terms of speed. Added a new 160GB hard disk into it.

There is an issue with current release of Xubuntu Feisty the paritioning software has some pretty major problems, but the Ubuntu CD worked fine and downloaded the xubuntu desktop for it.

The other problem was the ISA ( NE2000 compatible ) network card which I got working but didn't get the drivers to load on startup which I will have to look at next time.

Its impressive how relatively fast the machine can run and would recommend it as a good way of keep aging hardware useable.

Excellent Choice! Free Geek Chicago uses Xubuntu on their "FreekBoxes". The alternate install CD seems to have less partitioning issues on machines under 256MB ram.
