Going to tide pools is like a treasure
hunt that changes by the minute. The
colors, textures, smells, movement, and
general feeling of life makes this one
of the places where I feel connected
with the world.
I am down at the coast just about every
time I have a free moment including
journeys at 4:30 AM to catch the low
tide at sunrise and explore for 3 hours
before heading back to work building web
applications for the fake world. The
transition from tide pool to cyberspace
really drives home how far removed from
basic living humanity is.
I am a volunteer naturalist and board
member with the Friends of Fitzgerald
Marine Reserve in Moss Beach and take
tours down to the pools and help to
educate visitors who may have no idea
what they are seeing or aren't seeing
what's right in front of them. That's
the same spirit that I have when I go
out with my camera - capturing an image
that will help convey the vast array of
life that might get missed if you didn't
know what to look for.
This group of photos represents some of
my favorite shots of the animals that
can be found on our coast within a 45
minute drive of San Francisco. They are
somewhat arranged with my most favorite
at the top.
Thanks for looking.
