Vancouver Explosion

A Starbucks and Taco Del Mar on Broadway exploded at 2:30 this morning. The blast shook my building six blocks away. At this time, it appears that there was a gas leak in the Taco Del Mar and the fire dept. is calling it 'suspicious'.

Update: Fire officials are now confirming that it was arson.

I live less than four blocks away. There are glass doors and windows blown to smithereens on Heather Street which is amazing as that's down and around the corner ... a giant shock wave must have gone internally through the adjacent buildings.

The guy who has been charged (after about a month in hospital due to serious burns) was apparently a friend of the owners of the Taco Del Mar, where the explosion occurred. One of the owners committed suicide a few days after the explosion, so there's some pretty damning circumstantial evidence that there was a little something going on. Or maybe the guy was just pissed off at his friends for some reason and decided to blow up their restaurant.
