Operated under the auspices of the Parc Naturel Régional du Vexin Français, the House of Milling occupies the premises of a former flour mill, the Moulin de la Naze, located on the Sausseron about halfway between Nesles-la-Vallée and Valmondois.

Guided tours and videos acquaint the visitor with the operation of old-fashioned water-powered mills.

The House of Milling is open Saturday and Sunday afternoons from April through October and on Sunday afternoons from November to March.

This canvas, painted circa 1863-1873, depicts women washing their clothes on the banks of the OIse. It is in the permanent collection of the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas.

Mushrooms are grown commercially in caves carved out of the limestone underneath the fields on the plateau above Parmain. Numerous aeration vents dot the fields.

A gentleman whom we encountered along the trail described the mushroom beds as "insalubrious."

The painting was executed in 1912 and hangs in the collection of the Houston [Texas] Museum of Fine Arts [MFAH]. By the time he painted this work, Vlaminck was no longer one of the fauves.
