Roman Grave Marker - Getty Villa

This was particularly moving to me. It's a Roman grave marker from between 150-200 CE. The Latin inscription reads: "To Helena, foster daughter, the incomparable and worthy soul." It's theorized by some that this may be a grave marker for a dog. It would seem that the love of our pets transcends thousands of years of time and cultural difference.
