Thrift Shop Score: Projector Screen

Thrift Shop Score: Projector Screen by Jacob...K.
I about did a backflip when I managed to snag this one. I found it in its original box in perfect condition laying in a pile of junk in back of the thrift shop. I ran inside tried to explain what it was to the lady at front. I'm not sure that my frantic charades gave a clear picture, but she told me I could have whatever it was I was talking about for three dollars!

Now I can finally view my collection of vintage slides how they were truly meant to be viewed! (I previously projected them onto the back of map of the US).

Now you can see this family you don't know the way they meant to be seen!

I'm amazed how much these cost brand new today.

Wow - wish I had known. I only have 3 or 4 of those old slide projectors laying around. If that one malfunctions,( they seldom do), give us a holler.

Cool! Are the glass beads shedding? I've seen a few at thrift shops, but when I open them up it's like snow... all the beads shedding. Someday I'll find a nice one. I got another slide projector too! It's a Kodak, came -in the case- (!) with two carousels, spare lamp (very cool), remote. There were even some slides in the box. $10. I've got to get around to capturing the rest of my slides. Next I need a filmstrip projector. I've bought a few and have no way to capture them. Addicting, ain't it? (laugh)

I'm not sure what you mean about the glass beads.........This one is in mint condition, it was in the original box.........

I capture my slides by projecting and photographing them........I know there is a better way to do it, but I don't want to shell out for the contraption....

I found a working 8 mm camera at a thrift shop, but I didn't buy it because I seriously doubt that I could get film and get it developed

On very old screens, there's little glass beads on the face that cause more light reflection, and a brighter view. When they get old, those start to slough off. If your screen feels rough (on the white part), that's the glass.

I capture most of my slides with my Panaview viewer. I've learned how to hold the camera lens just so to get a good shot. I want a screen though, then I can just set up the tripod and shoot them. Much easier.

Movie camera? Yeah... I keep wanting to buy one, but mostly for display. I've heard there's still some labs that develop 8mm (and Super 8) film, but I'll bet it's expensive.
