A Thrush is an infrequent visitor to our backyard, being rather retiring and only leaving the cover of forest in rare cold spells with snow blanketing the ground (like now). Therefore, so delighted to be visited by this couple (male on the right). They seemed to be enjoying each other's company in occasional dances in air then stopping to take turns at the suet.

Back in November, we awoke to first - and so far, last, snow fall lovely in early morning light. The white stuff hung around for three days - beautiful while it lasted.

The road beneath our street runs along several mini-farms. It's difficult to get sustained good weather for photography at this time of year but barn yard critters are just a couple of blocks away - like this little horse. She reminds me of sturdy little wild-west range ponies - an interesting contrast to the large, thoroughbred stallion that she shares her corral with.

These small brown very acrobatic finches are generally in large flocks that descend on a tree or a meal "en masse". This flutter of activity reveals the beautiful flashes of bright yellow not so evident when Pine Siskins are at rest.
Don't usually shoot birds at feeders but their frantic behaviour is so fun to watch.

Downies are the smallest woodpeckers in North America - ours are not any bigger than a sparrow. They are every inch woodpecker though with their classic black, white, red (males) and their busy pecking rat-a-tat up and down the tree.
