Kathleen Edwards

The Majestic Theater on King Street right off the Square is a much more intimate venue than I expected. It had a nice crowd for Ms. Edwards, a Canadian singer/songwriter with catchy melodies, clever lyrics, and a fairly average voice. She put on a very pleasant show. Labels so seldom work any more, but I think she might be called pop-rock.

Thank you. Good equipment helps. So does patience. This is one of the three best of about 70 shots. She's a pretty young woman and sings with her eyes open, which helps a lot. But the lighting is quite dim (check the EXIF) and contains a garish mixture of white and magenta. Thank goodness she wore some white for me to use for color balance. (Even the guitar strap might have been enough for that). Several things go into choosing, the singer's expression, the chance to render something close to decent skin tones, reasonable framing. The ability to add the side-man in the background was a plus.

one of the best concert photos that i have ever seen. i have seen some great shots with the D3, but this one is really fantastic. she's talented and pretty. i like her and tift merritt.
