At first glance I thought the HDR was overdone but I think it works well here. The colours acheived on the boat are excellent and in stark contrast to the muted tones of the water and sky which help it pop. The reflection in the water looks a little too yellow however which makes it look a bit fake, but HDR is not meant to represent real life is it!? :)

The picture certainly improves considerably viewed large which I always see as a good sign (no picture could be called good where the opposite happens).
I am not a great fan of HDR but here it has provided great detail and colour in keeping with the impression that must have been left in the eye of the photographer when viewing the scene. All the wood and woven canopy stands out very well. From the name plate, the boat appears to belong to a hire company and you could travel in some style on it with a little throne for the 'driver'.
The composition serves the picture perfectly well, all the lines lead to the boat and it has a cap of cloud which follows the curve of the roof. The slate blue sky in the end brings out the colour elsewhere (I had some initial doubts) and the same goes for the strange yellow in the water and the vignetting - they seem to work. One interesting thing that looks worse in the smaller size in the way the nameplate of the boat lines up with the far bank and the white patches on the prow look like reflections in the water, making the prow look slightly transparent with the background showing through.
An interesting subject made the most of in the processing.

This is a great shot. The detail, the colour, the gray. I love the angle that makes the boat name line up with the horizon. maybe that was accidental - but the impact is so "other-worldly". Somehow the impact is enhanced by the light on the prow - I agree that it looks translucent.
It's even better large or on black. Great result - going into my favs
Well Done

I only wish I had a larger enough monitor to fully appreciate the image large. I'm generally not a fan of HDR but I can see how it allowed the full range of colors and textures to really stand out. The striking contrast between the back of the image and the foreground with all the detail in between makes for a strong image.

Hi

I haven't read anyone else's comments so this is my own reaction.

Things I like:
well, most of it actually! Obviously the colours are good - I like it that the sky is a bit dark. There's a hint of that surreal feeling when the sky goes dark in the middle of a sunny day just before a thunder storm. And surreal is of course appropriate for HDR. The pink/purple of the seats, the green in the trees, even the yellow in the water (more on that later) add to the technicolour feeling. This is larger than life and all the better for it. Of course, the details of the textures on this boat are where the HDR has really come into its own - from the woven reeds (?) to the folds in the drapes to the rougher textures of the wooden hull. I also like the detail of the rope snaking from quay to prow and the rubber tyre fenders. I think even the darker misty corners (sorry, don't know the technical term for that treatment) work well here - it makes me think of the way in old movies they'd do the dream scenes.
One thing I'm not sure about is the yellow in the water. I like the colour - it seems to echo the warmer tones on the sunlit part of the deck and it also picks up some of the palm trees on the far bank. I'm just a little distracted by the way there's such a sudden contrast in the water from very strong yellow to murkier green. I don't think it's a serious probem though. And anyway, I wouldn't even know how to begin to take a photo like this. A fave.

Beau HDR excepté que le devant du bateau a une transparence??? Est-ce le pare soleil qui donne le noir tout autour de photo ou est-ce voulu?
