You cannot use the iPhone 4 dock with the bumpers on. One solution is to use the universal dock without an adapter. This is not an optimal solution, but works.
Hope Apple makes an adapter specifically designed for the iPhone 4 bumper.

BTW: If you don't mind me asking - it looks like your bumper is "notched" in the upper left corner. Drop test (or accident)?
Yutaka Tsutano 36 months ago | reply
No, the bumper is without a scratch. It's just a reflection of an object above the desk. So no drop test yet :-)

How firmly does it sit when in the dock? I've used mismatched docks or ipods for years, but I'm a little leary of doing it with the phone.
Yutaka Tsutano 35 months ago | reply
It's somewhat unstable without an adapter.
I made an adapter based on the one for 5th Gen iPod (No. 9). I cut the bottom part off and changed the shape a little bit. iPhone sits perfectly with this adapter.
Here's a couple of photos showing the adapter:

How easy is it to removed this 'bumper'?
if it's that easy, then I doubt Apple would go as far as making a dock just for that when it take mere second to removed the bumper and plug in the phone.
Yutaka Tsutano 35 months ago | reply
I don't think the bumper is designed to be removed frequently.
That said, I agree with you that Apple won't make a dock for the bumper because Apple products are not designed to be used with cases. But I may be wrong.

I recently tried this (bumper + universal dock w/o adapter) and experienced a strange behavior:
Although the iPhone starts charging and is recognized by iTunes I'm unable to sync.
Following error occurred:
"The iPhone cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found."
Without the bumper, syncing works fine.

can i buy your original iphone off you or trade it for something?
Yutaka Tsutano 35 months ago | reply
I sometimes give my old devices away, but I rarely sell them. As for these iPhones, I use them for testing my iPhone apps (3G is a slowest iOS4 device, and the original is the slowest of the all).

Did you use a case for your other 2 iphone models..They seem to be in pristine condition...
Yutaka Tsutano 34 months ago | reply
I've used invisibleSHIELD for a year or so. Then I decided not to use any case or film.

Got the bumper - huge design flaw preventing me from charging the iPhone - all because of the thin piece of plastic that doesn't let you plug it in.
Time for it to have a chat with Mr Stanley.

Check out the LYCO Adapter at www.synthecept.com. It is a universal dock adapter that works with the iPhone 4 with or without a case. The LYCO Adapter also works with the iPhone 4 bumper case! It also works with the universal dock sold by apple.

The LYCO Adapter at www.synthecept.com works great with the iPhone 4 in a bumper case. It is a simple redesigned universal dock adapter that works perfectly with the iphone 4 in a bumper case. It also works great with other slimline plastic cases. I have been using it for a few months now and LOVE it! www.synthecept.com
